South Asian
Progressive Collective Gathering
- How can we develop a vibrant progressive
South Asian community in the Bay Area?
- What would this community look like?
- What does it mean to be South Asian and
Progressive?
Please join us in a community
gathering to begin exploring and answering these questions! For
the first time, a diverse group of South Asians from the Bay Area
will be coming together to explore new ways of working together
on issues of social justice pertinent to our community. All South
Asians are welcome!
In the last year there has been
a compelling need for support and action for our community. A lot
of good work has been done, and a lot remains to be done, in such
areas as:
- activism and art
- gender roles in South Asian cultures
- post 9-11 hate crimes
- queer organizing
- domestic violence in South Asian communities
- the illegal detention of South Asians
- labor organizing
- an impending war on Iraq
- communal violence in Gujarat
- and more
Come to speak, listen, and participate!
We will be using a flexible form of facilitation where most of the
agenda for the gathering will be created by those who come that
day.......so consider what you would like to discuss on the theme
above, and bring your passion, ideas, and engagement!
You will also have a chance to meet people from a variety of co-sponsoring
organizations and better understand what the work of each of these
groups is about. We hope to leave the day with a better understanding
of each other's work, new ideas about how to collaborate with each
other, and action items to make this happen!
