Riffat Salamat is the daughter of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan,
who is universally recognized as one of the greatest classical Pakistani/Indian
singers of the last century. Their family traces back their musical
lineage 800 years to Mian Tansen, the finest court musican
of the great Moghul Emperor Akbar. Riffat Salamat is the first woman
from this lineage to publicly sing and carry on this tradition.
Riffat, who learned to sing from her father
and brothers, is well versed in various genres of traditional Pakistani/Indian
music, including: classical, sufi, qawwali, ghazal, geet and thumri.
Her performances include spontaneous selections from these styles.
She
will be accomapnied by her husband, Shiraz Ali Khan (himself
a disciple of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan) on guitar, and Ferhan Najeeb
Qureshi (disciple of Ustad Tari Khan) on tabla.

Parag Chordia is a disciple of Pandit
Buddhadev Das Gupta, a brilliant, pioneering sarod player who
played a pivotal role in the birth of modern sarod playing. Earlier
he trained with Michael Robbins who studied with the two
legends, Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitre (the teacher of Pandit
Buddhadev Das Gupta) and Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh.
